Privacy Policy

DailyGameTree ("dailygametree.com", "we", "us", or "our") is a small, independently run collection of free daily browser puzzle games. This policy explains what information the site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to dailygametree.com and every game hosted under it.

We built this site to be as low-data as possible: there are no user accounts, no sign-ups, and no forms that collect personal information. Most of what follows describes either the small amount of technical data that any website inevitably generates, or the advertising and analytics services described below.

Note on AdSense and Analytics: This site uses Google AdSense (advertising) and Google Analytics (usage statistics). Before either one sets a non-essential cookie, we show every visitor — not only those in the UK, EEA, or Switzerland — a consent choice through a Google-approved consent management platform, so you can allow or decline analytics and advertising cookies. You can change that choice at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer, once it's live.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly. We don't currently ask you to create an account, sign up, or fill in any form to play the games. If you email us (for example via the Contact page), we'll have whatever information you choose to include in that email — typically your email address and message content — which we use only to reply to you.

Local device storage. Some games save your progress or preferences directly in your browser's local storage, on your own device. For example, Yeardle remembers your guesses for the current day's puzzle so your progress survives a page refresh, and 67dle remembers whether you last played in Normal or Hard mode. This information never leaves your device, is never sent to us or any third party, and is not linked to your identity. You can clear it at any time via your browser's site data settings.

Automatically collected technical information. Like almost every website, our hosting provider (GitHub Pages) automatically logs standard technical data for every visit — things like IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamps — for security and operational purposes. We don't have direct access to detailed logs beyond what GitHub provides; see GitHub's own privacy statement for details on how GitHub Pages handles this.

2. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand overall traffic and usage patterns — for example, which games are popular, which pages are visited, and roughly where in the world visitors are coming from. Google Analytics typically collects information such as your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, time spent on the site, and referring/exit pages, using cookies or similar identifiers. We do not use Google Signals, which would otherwise let Google link this data across your other devices.

We've set Analytics to keep data for a limited period (14 months) rather than the longest option available, and we don't use Analytics to try to identify you personally.

This data is processed by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy and Google's Analytics Privacy Disclosures Policy. If you're visiting from the UK, EEA, or Switzerland, Analytics cookies are only set once you've given consent through our cookie banner, as described in "Cookies and Similar Technologies" below.

3. Google AdSense

This site displays advertising served by Google AdSense, and possibly other advertising partners in Google's advertising network. These providers may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads (including personalized ads based on your browsing activity), measure ad performance, and prevent fraud. A current list of the third-party ad technology providers Google may work with is published at Google's Ad Technology Providers page rather than reproduced here, since it changes from time to time.

Advertising partners may collect and use information about your visits to this and other websites to provide advertisements about goods and services that may interest you. You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and you can opt out of personalized advertising generally through Google Ads Settings or via aboutads.info.

For visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland, we present a consent choice — through a Google-certified consent management platform — before any advertising cookies that require consent are set, in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy. Until you choose to allow personalized advertising, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalized to you.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

"Cookies" are small text files (and localStorage entries are a close cousin) that websites can use to remember information. We group ours into three categories:

  • Strictly necessary / functional: the local storage used to save your in-progress game state and mode preference. This doesn't require consent because it's essential to the game working the way you'd expect, and no data is transmitted anywhere.
  • Analytics cookies: set by Google Analytics, only once you've given consent through our cookie banner if you're visiting from the UK, EEA, or Switzerland.
  • Advertising cookies: set by Google AdSense, only once you've given consent through our cookie banner if you're visiting from the UK, EEA, or Switzerland; visitors elsewhere may be shown non-personalized ads by default depending on local requirements.

You can change your cookie choice at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the site footer, or control cookies more broadly through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them — though doing so may affect how well some sites (not just this one) function.

5. Your Rights

If you're located in the UK or the European Economic Area, data protection law (UK GDPR / EU GDPR) gives you a number of rights over personal data processed about you, including the right to: access the data we (or our processors, like Google) hold about you; request correction or deletion of it; object to or restrict certain processing, including objecting to your data being used for personalised advertising; withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (e.g. by adjusting the cookie banner once it's live, or through Google Ads Settings); and request a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights in relation to information we hold directly (as opposed to Google's own processing, which Google handles under its own privacy policy), contact us at dailygametree@gmail.com. If you're not satisfied with our response, UK residents can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and EEA residents can complain to their local data protection authority.

If you're a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you similar rights: to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We've configured Google Analytics with Restricted Data Processing for California traffic, which limits Google's use of that data to providing the service to us rather than its own purposes. You can still use the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer to decline analytics and advertising cookies entirely. Residents of other US states with their own privacy laws, or of any other region, may have similar rights under their local law; contact us and we'll do our best to help regardless of where you're located.

6. International Visitors and Data Transfers

DailyGameTree is run from the United Kingdom, but the site is public and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Where third-party services we use (such as Google) process data outside your home country — including in the United States — they do so under their own safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, as described in their respective privacy policies.

7. Children's Privacy

DailyGameTree is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at dailygametree@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

8. Third-Party Links

Advertisements or other elements on the site may link to third-party websites. We aren't responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we don't operate, and we encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

9. Data Retention

Local storage data stays on your device until you clear it yourself or your browser does so automatically. We've set Google Analytics to retain data for 14 months before it's automatically deleted, rather than a longer default. Data handled by Google AdSense is retained according to Google's own retention settings and policies.

10. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the site, but no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for instance, when Analytics or AdSense actually go live, or if our practices otherwise change. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and for significant changes we'll try to make that clear on the site.
